When people want to learn how to play a musical instrument or when they want to get better at a musical instrument they already know how to play, they will often take music lessons from a music teacher or from a music instructor. Music instructors and teachers specialize in music instruction and in teaching people musical instruments. Some music instructors are voice instructors who teach people how to sing and how to sing better. Different voice instructors specialize in teaching different styles of singing. In your search for a music instruction course, class or private school, check out a few different ones to get course availability, price, location, start and end date, and type of instruction. Check out your local academic institution or college, and browse newspaper listings for private at-home instruction. Make appointments with each to get a feel for the class and whether you’d be a good fit. Price is a factor so be sure it fits into your budget. Ask how long the class is. Some classes are ongoing, while others last six or eight weeks. Ask if the instructor has a website you can check out for more information, photos of recent concerts and performances, description of courses, and student testimonials. When meeting with the school or instructor, take note if he or she is professional, timely and accommodating. Find out if the private school offers lessons for kids or adults, or both, and inquire if the school is part of a local, national or international entity. Before choosing a music instruction course, class or private school for kids and adults keep in mind the school’s or instructor’s hours, course availability, lesson duration, location, friendliness of instructors, services, and reputation.
